Chorale sponsors Mozart Requiem Sing-In
The critically-acclaimed Fairfield County Chorale was the local host in a nationwide 10th-year anniversary "9 11 11 Requiem of Remembrance Project", sponsoring a Sing-In of Mozart's Requiem. Similar to the "Rolling Requiem" that occurred on the first anniversary of the 9/11 tragedy, this year's event started on the East Coast and rolled from time zone to time zone, as FCC joined choruses from Long Island to Hawaii in a wave of remembrance with the healing and transformative power of Mozart's incomparable music. The Fairfield, CT Sing-In took place at St. Thomas Aquinas R.C. Church, Fairfield, who co-sponsored the event, and was conducted by FCC Guest Conductor Christine R. Howlett and accompanied by David H. Connell, with professional soloists Mary Ellen Callahan, Kate Maroney, Mark A. Boyle, and Curtis Streetman.
Five hundred members of the community attended the event, which also honored the fallen of 9/11 with a reading of the names of those significant to the audience by the ringing of the antique fire truck bell provided by the Fairfield Fire Department, members of which were also recognized. Proceeds from the voluntary contributions benefited Voices of September 11th (http://voicesofseptember11.org), a New Canaan-based charity supporting families and other impacted by the events of September 11th.
"This will be our reply to violence: to make music more intensely, more beautifully, more devotedly than ever before." -Bernstein
